Your Starting “Point” FAQ’s
Where are you located?
We’re located at 900 W. University Dr. (Suite E) Rochester, MI 48307 between Main Street and Livernois, in the Coldwell Banker Building at the rear entrance of the building complete with a handicap accessible ramp. Our main exterior entrance is the only one at the rear of the 900 Building. Upon entry to the building make a left at the drinking fountains and we’re the last suite on the right…prepare to be AMAZED!!! Map to our Location: turningpointcares.com/location
Is your church handicap accessible?
Yes. There is reserved handicap parking at the rear parking lot closest to the building complete with a handicap ramp that leads directly to our entrance. There are handicap restrooms onsite as well. Where do I park?
We have parking spaces at the rear of the 900 Coldwell Banker Building. May we suggest you utilize our reserved guest parking area along the brown railing for your convenience. Of course, if it’s required, we are completely handicap accessible. If you need assistance, feel free to ask any of the greeters, they will be more than happy to assist any of your needs.
Where do I enter when I get there?
Our main exterior entrance is the only one at the rear of the 900 Coldwell Banker Building off of West University Drive. We share an entrance with another business (financial planner suite D), so don’t be thrown off by their sign. Upon entry to the building through the breeze-way, make a left at the drinking fountains and we’re the last suite on the right…be prepared to be AMAZED!!! Greeters are located at the front entrance and are available to direct you to a classroom for your children, to the nursery for your little ones, or the Sanctuary for worship.
What should I wear?
Dress comfortably. We’re more concerned with meeting your needs than focusing on what you wear. While a few people might choose to wear their “Sunday best”, people also dress casual. We want you to come as you are! When do I need to arrive? Sunday school and Praise & Worship begins promptly at 11:00 a.m. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the service/class time to allow adequate time for parking and getting to the Sanctuary/Bible Study class.
What can my children expect?
Childcare: While children are special, there may be a time you need a moment to give them “their” space so YOU can concentrate on getting the encouragement you need to be a better Chrisitan parent. Each service there’s a specially created space available for your child to focus on being a “kid!” Feel free to contact any one of our hospitality staff and they’ll be happy to direct you to our classroom and nursery area where you may check-in your child…free of charge of course! Just inside the main entrance are greeters stationed throughout the morning to register your child and direct them to their classroom. We offer nursery for infants and Sunday School for your children. There’s even “Kidz J.A.M.” (Jesus and Me) for ages 5 and up, J.A.M. Jr. for ages 2 to 4, on Thursday evenings during Mission Point! What is your style of Worship Service?
We would consider our service a nice contemporary blend, and features the singing of modern praise choruses accompanied by our praise band and praise team. Our desire is for our worship service to be both Biblically sound and culturally relevant. We do feature the use of occasional drama or video to enhance the worship experience. Don’t know the words to our songs? No worries! We use state-of-the-art multimedia software through 2 high-powered projector systems that display both the words to our songs and the scripture references during the sermon. “Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, And His praise in the congregation of the godly ones.” Psalm 149:1 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Col. 3:16 “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord…” Eph. 5:19
How are your guests recognized?
The last thing we want to do is single you out or put you on the spot. We ask guest to fill out a Welcome Card located inside our weekly bulletin and give it to one of our greeters so that we can have a record of your visit. We’ll never ask you to stand up, but the pastor and the Turning Point Family will certainly want to thank you for being there. Your visit is a special occasion to us – It’s an opportunity to connect! Making your acquaintance is a privilege we don’t take lightly. God considers you special to HIM and so do we. We take it very seriously that you’ve made Turning Point your church of choice and we want you to have a wonderful and memorable experience. We strive to create a friendly and comfortable environment to make you feel right at home. On your first visit to Turning Point, you’re invited to come as our guest, but when you return we consider you family!
Why should I fill out a connection card during service?
At Turning Point we use “Connection Cards.” Virtually everyone at our church fills these out. It’s here they can ask for prayer, find opportunities for involvement, identify “next steps” in their walk with God, etc. If you’re comfortable in doing so, we’d love to hear from you, and to provide you with more information about Turning Point, so during the service we provide you with a very informative bulletin along with a perforated “Connection Card.” It’s here that you can provide us with contact information for follow-up on any one of our programs, events, or promotions. Plus, we’d love to send you a brief email to touch base with you about your visit with us. You’re under no obligation to provide this information; it’s strictly our way of letting you know your visit with us was appreciated. We cannot control the various filters email systems use, but we strive to “connect” with our guests in a meaningful and non-imposing way, and email has proven to be an effective tool for that purpose. PRIVACY: We are committed to your privacy, and will never intentionally use your information in a way that would put you or your family at risk for Junk Mail, SPAM, PHISHING, or identity theft. Nor will we ever release this information to third-parties, businesses, or our affiliates.
Will I be pressured to make donations or contributions to your church?
Absolutely NOT! At Turning Point Ministries we do receive “tithes and offerings” as this is God’s way He’s ordained to sustain the work we do in our community and beyond. The building, the chairs, the lights, and the various programs and aspects of our ministry require funding, but as our guest we want you to know you are under NO obligation to donate or contribute. You see, God doesn’t need our money to make things happen, but we’ve just learned by experience that God undoubtedly channels His blessings upon those who will invest a portion what He’s blessed us with back into His Kingdom.
